Grown for its edible oil and edible fruit. Sunflower seeds contain vitamins A,D and E and are also rich in calcium, zinc, potassium, iron and phosphorus. The oil, which is high in vitamin E and rich in fatty acids, is extracted through cold pressing.
Geography: North & South America, Europe and Asia.
Historical Uses
Rich in oleic and linoleic fatty acid and antioxidants, sunflower oils has been used in skincare products for its easy absorption, soothing properties and emollient qualities.
Stories & Legends
Native Americans planted this crop on the north side of their gardens and considered them a "fourth sister: to the better known three sister combination of squash, beans and corn.
